The prodigys first album did not really give away the genre of the band and is quite plain, to someone who is unaware of the band this CD cover may not be so appealing to them. the 'Expanded: remixes & B-sides' shows that they possibly re-released the album with new content.
The cover of this album immediately draws the audiences attention with the image of the screaming face on, again this album cover does not reveal the genre of the band and is not representative of it. the colours used on this album, smilar to the first one are very dark and dingy, again not representative of the genre of music the Prodigy make.
The Prodigys third album is the first to use bright and attractive colours - representing conventions you might expect from a band of this genre, still however, the genre of the band is not immediately recognisable from the cover. The band and name of the album is small and off centre, meaning the image would be the first thing to draw the audiences attention.
Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned (2004)
The Prodigys fourth album again focuses on a colourful image rather than dark dingy colours, like the first two. The image on this CD cover looks like a peice of abstract art. it appears to be a collage of different images created to look like a womans face. The name of the album and band do not feature of the cover of the CD. Like all the previous albums there is no real connection to the genre of the band.
Invaders Must Die (2009)
The Prodigy's latest album (which our chosen song is off) This CD cover shows the album and band name clearly, with a picture of a blimp landing in a field. This could be the prodigys first album cover that represents the name of the album, for example, the Blimp landing could be the 'Invaders'. However, similar to all the other CD covers there is no real connection or give away to the genre of the band.
Overall Analysis
A common feature on all of the The Prodigy album covers is the lack of representation of the genre of the band. This could show that the band refuse to form the conventions of the genre and rely on fan knowledge of the band to sell albums. Also there is no real connection of the name of the album and the images on the cover (aside from Invaders Must Die)
