Animatic Storyboard

Due to our video being shot at a live party, we are going to film the entire night and edit it into a montage added with the planned events of our storyboard. As we are unable to predict the events of the party, we have been unable to create a complete storyboard. We have, however put our scripted events into the storyboard.

Our Pitch

For this project we will hope to achieve a high standard music video with use of the song, ‘Warriors Dance’ by The Prodigy, we wanted to do this style of music because we found it easier to stick to a younger target audience, which would make it easier to produce our own ideas and own experiences. In this music video we will include elements of a teenage party. Using fast cuts and mainly handheld camera’s to get drunken and bouncy effect of the party. Our aim in this video is to, at the beginning show the 7 main characters walking to the party and at the party we will individually show these characters ad their different actions throughout the night. The main character, which is Zack, will be shown both getting ready for the party and coming away from the party, we have planned to use another friends house for him to just quickly get ready and leave.. We will try to show as many different elements as possible, whilst trying to stick to the Electronica conventions. There will be alcohol and drugs shown however, due to age restrictions it will not be actual alcohol or drugs, just basically liquid in a can and we will only pretend to take ecstasy pills which will probably be vitamins or paracetamol. It will be filmed in a friend’s house and some of it in planned areas of Easington. We will ensure safety throughout and make sure we get the final shots to our highest ability. The target audience for my video is young teens, ages of 16-20+. In order to attract this audience we will need to entail realistic events within this video. We will tell the cast of our video what to do but try and get them to be normal and act like they would at a normal party. As we were able to get research before out planning of the video we are able to understand what the characters show wear and how they should act. The use of handheld cameras will allow the audience to feel although they are at the party themselves therefore getting them interested in the video. We decided to stick to this age range, as they will be able to relate to this as oppose to the older audience who tend to be disgusted or look down on teens that perform these actions.

Deconstruction of Music Videos - Omen

As The Prodigy are an electro-punk band this video shows a distinct stage performance with Strobe lights, very fast cuts, No routine dance moves and the band members free styling over the stage whilst the song is playing. This video is amplifying as the name of the song ‘Omen’ and at the beginning of the music video there is a child referring to the omen child in the film. However the rest of the video does not have much reference to the lyrics therefore making it an amplified music video. The relationship between the music and visuals is amplifying as the music is fast paced to represent the genre. There are many close ups of the artists/band. There facial expressions are shown and dancing emphasised. There is no voyeuristic treatment of the female body included in this video however this can be seen in other Prodigy videos e.g. ‘Smack my Bitch up’. There is an intertextual reference to the film ‘Omen’ as there are images of the child at the beginning and the end of the video; the suspenseful music being played gives a feel to the video.

Deconstruction of CD Covers

Experience (1992)
The prodigys first album did not really give away the genre of the band and is quite plain, to someone who is unaware of the band this CD cover may not be so appealing to them. the 'Expanded: remixes & B-sides' shows that they possibly re-released the album with new content.

Music For The Jilted Generation (1994)
The cover of this album immediately draws the audiences attention with the image of the screaming face on, again this album cover does not reveal the genre of the band and is not representative of it. the colours used on this album, smilar to the first one are very dark and dingy, again not representative of the genre of music the Prodigy make.

The Fat of The Land (1997)
The Prodigys third album is the first to use bright and attractive colours - representing conventions you might expect from a band of this genre, still however, the genre of the band is not immediately recognisable from the cover. The band and name of the album is small and off centre, meaning the image would be the first thing to draw the audiences attention.

Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned (2004)
The Prodigys fourth album again focuses on a colourful image rather than dark dingy colours, like the first two. The image on this CD cover looks like a peice of abstract art. it appears to be a collage of different images created to look like a womans face. The name of the album and band do not feature of the cover of the CD. Like all the previous albums there is no real connection to the genre of the band.

Invaders Must Die (2009)
The Prodigy's latest album (which our chosen song is off) This CD cover shows the album and band name clearly, with a picture of a blimp landing in a field. This could be the prodigys first album cover that represents the name of the album, for example, the Blimp landing could be the 'Invaders'. However, similar to all the other CD covers there is no real connection or give away to the genre of the band.

Overall Analysis
A common feature on all of the The Prodigy album covers is the lack of representation of the genre of the band. This could show that the band refuse to form the conventions of the genre and rely on fan knowledge of the band to sell albums. Also there is no real connection of the name of the album and the images on the cover (aside from Invaders Must Die)

Artist and Song Confirmation

Chosen Song: Warriors Dance
Artist: The Prodigy

Initial Ideas

This was our mind map of our initial ideas, we decided that we liked our original idea of going to a party and using hand-held camera's to make the audience feel as if they themselves were there. After failing to acquire permission for our first choice song (Get Smashed, Gate Crash - Hadouken!) so after successfully gaining permission from The Prodigy we decided to use their track Warriors Dance as the song for our music video
